Back then, rural America was largely in darkness.

The city lights shone bright, but the countryside had yet to experience the magic of electricity.

Recognizing the disparity and the potential to drive development, the government introduced the Rural Electrification Act in 1936.

That was the government action.

The government’s intent to electrify rural America converged with the advancements in electrical infrastructure technology.

And with vast stretches of America still living in the dark, the demand for electric power was insatiable.

All the ingredients were in place for a massive boom.

And sure enough, we saw a significant expansion in the electrical equipment manufacturing sector and related industries.

Factories sprang up, jobs were created and the quality of life in rural America improved exponentially, igniting economic growth in previously neglected areas.

And yet again, those who had their fingers on the pulse during this electrifying era thrived.

But perhaps one of the most profound examples of this convergence is something more recent that we all use daily—the internet.

While it might seem like a purely tech-driven phenomenon…

The Internet is Actually a Product of This Same Convergence: Government, Technology and Demand
