It only takes about 1/2 of 1 percent to maintain the homozygous lines. There’s no way they are going to breed every parent line moth they have to make only hybrid worms unless they are really stupid.

Also, freezing eggs increases losses. The longer they are frozen the more losses there will be. It only makes sense to freeze enough eggs to cover unforeseen circumstances to ensure adequate supply to farmers that have been contracted out. Most eggs should be used fresh and their production an ongoing endeavor, not a produce a bunch of hybrid eggs and start from scratch scenario like you are suggesting.
