that kind of injury is not that rare and in fact happened to my mom who years later has shoulder pain. Glad you are feeling better but just an FYI for future that it may be the administration and not what's in the vaccine
Sure. SIVRA reports are no longer terribly rare, but there used to be many fewer (see below quote from a summary paper on SIVRA). However no one has really tracked it well so it’s possible its just a reporting thing. However i doubt this - the increase is large and there are papers speculating it may be related to vaccine type. That said, agree there is some speculation (and it’s not much more than that) that it’s about improperly injecting too high and thus into joint instead of muscle. My guess is both (i just got my Novavax and i watched the pharmacist carefully - he was going to inject too high. Right at joint. I had to somewhat forcefully argue with him to go down 2 or 3 fingers width.) but agree it’s really difficult to know.
The incidence of SIRVA is not well-known, but is assumed to be uncommon. Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration was not officially added to the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) Vaccine Injury Table until 2017. However, shoulder injury claims had been substantially increasing for over a decade. 4
