It isn't just that. I think what a lot of people don't understand is that Russia is divided up between the Oligarchs and they don't see eye to eye. The only reason Putin retains the ultimate power is that he controls the military and the media. All the Oligarchs have their own separate defense forces but they don't match up with his ultimate control of the country's military resources.
Since the serious sanctions started, the infighting has only gotten worse, leaving Russia more divided than it has ever been. I don't understand why it isn't talked about more in the Western media but I'm just a construction superintendent at a zoo, so war strategy and national security are a little out of my league. I can only try to read as much as possible from the experts and glean my own opinions.
