Then ... Nixon talks through his open restaurants, including his newly opened ones. Those are all messages to his shareholders that his company still has value.

This is just my opinion, but I think (=I speculate on the possibility that) Nixon allowed himself to be revoked as a strategy against toxic lenders. If he did, he wasn't going to say anything in public that could be used against him in a lawsuit by those lenders.
