I honestly don't know what the difference is, other than PR and sympathy contingent who seem to want the dramatic adjective that he was shot, when he may be just the victim of shrapnel or ricochet, but either would give you a purple heart had you been doing service in defense of your country, which, like everything else, he is a failure at.
