I went to a reunion of my military school a few years ago, the class lost six to Vietnam. Each one probably had a story to tell about Vietnam, unfortunately they never came home. Six others served and came home, only two checked in with us. One became a career Army man and has had a very distinguished career. The other never said much on the phone call.

An entire generation was changed forever, even all of those who never served. A close buddy called me when I was in the hospital last month. We text every once in a while, but now that others are actually dying from one thing or another, we actually get to talk. It was probably about the fourth phone call that he mentioned how he also stayed in college to avoid Vietnam. I have heard this many times, he also has some serious reservations that he did not serve.

When you know so many who did serve, and hear the shit they went through, and then had to come home and deal with it for the rest of their lives. No one escaped that stupid war.

When I hear our resident Israel defender of this latest war, I wonder how many millions of lives have been changed forever. Families who have suffered death, injury, and just the total disruption of a homeland they once lived in. Civilization just never learns how to settle problems between the different populations of the world.

Again, I would never defend Hamas, but I also would never defend Netanyahu.
