As I wrote previously, my father was drafted out of MIT to work on it. He lived to a ripe old age and spent his last couple of decades deeply remorseful.

My opinion is that some people think it was necessary and some don’t. According to McNamara, we had already firebombed a lot of the big cities in Japan, in which the buildings were mostly constructed of wood, so the A-bombs weren’t necessary.

My opinion is also that a lot of kids and women and medical aid workers were killed by them much like you know where, now

It’s strange that Japan never really held it against us. Also, 17 years after Germany surrendered, JFK gave his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech so I guess the trauma of war is easily forgotten
