B402, You whine about all government and all politicians. I don't recall you saying anything positive about much of anything, except now people as Thoreau and Paine and places like Walden Pond.
I don't accept that every person who goes into politics is only interested in politicking. I believe many, if not most, go in to help make the country better. In their own mind, of course. Following their own mind as Thoreau would say. You say:
"Dems and the repubs are only interested in politics, wait for the talking points and repeat often, which is no solution and as Mr Thoreau would most likely say, speak your own mind, do not be afraid of the masses, that in itself is working for change.......
P - Take the path less traveled and do not be a servant to a government who is losing its integrity and the parties that are full of self serving interest........
P - In the same group is Thomas Paine who wrote Common Sense.... Something I firmly believe we've gotten far from.....On to Washington's warning of the 2 party system.......
P - Would we have a United States if the founders only conformed? Will we keep it if we follow the call to conform to one or the other....."
While of course there is much truth in saying politics is dirty. Politics is selfish. Politics is nasty. There is also much untruth in your saying:
"Dems and the repubs are only interested in politics, wait for the talking points and repeat often, which is no solution..."
Would you rather no government regulation. Re environment. Dirty water. Ethical practice in business. Thoreau would not i'd guess have said the US government was the worst way of government. He would not i'd guess suggest the world would be a better place if every individual lived as he lived. He would not have denigrated all in government as you do.
He spoke of the importance of self fulfillment, as many politicians do. Millions of Americans work to make America better by following their dreams, as millions of people worldwide do. As Thoreau himself did.
Do you believe the world would be a better place if everyone did a Thoreau?
Where are your posts offering solutions to the American system of government. No. Forget solutions, as there never would be one which would make everyone happy. There will always be people like you.
Where are your posts offering offering ideas of improvement. You personally post basically and so so repetitively your opinions, like your whining about the two party system. I don't recall your posts offering practical new ideas. Many people have them, why aren't you posting some of those more practically engaged than you are.
Philosophy and simple living has their place. But you can't manage a country solely on them.
Why not post about what writings inspired Thoreau's thoughts. Go into it deeper why not.
And i invite you to post what Thoreau said about himself when he came to die.
It was Plato who said, “He, O men, is the wisest, who like Socrates, knows that his wisdom is in truth worth nothing”
