Tom Friedman has an interesting (for him) op ed in the NY Times today. He notes that, basically, Hamas wants a cease fire and Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and a hostage / prisoner swap, all of which is well known.
His point is that, with the exception of the swap, Hamas seems intent on bargaining to get back to the way things were before 10/7. So they started a war which destroyed their territory and resulted in thousands of civilian deaths in order to, what? Disrupt American campus life and get a lot of followers on social media?
Of course, sales of kaffiyehs are up, world wide, so there's that. Never read anywhere, ever, that Hamas' sponsor, Iran, wants a two state solution.
