I am not afraid to pop the bubble many people are living in as far as having an open discussion about all the possibilities. For instance, I look at depopulation as a fact of life rather than a negative outlook. I am open to all the ways in terms of how technology and lifestyles can lessen birth and life expectancy rates from a pragmatic point of view.
I look at billions rendered useless as merely as a fact when compared to artificial intelligence. We, as humans, created this possibility and have to live with the outcome - both the good and the bad. Death is a part of life. *Shrug*
Again, I don't see this as holding a defeatist view. I fully accept the idea that technology may have many of us beat. I'll make the best of things and play the game of life as best I can, understanding the world doesn't owe me a damn thing.
I don't have a sense of entitlement. I am grateful for what I have been given and what I have earned which is more than a thousand lifetimes of good compared to the vast majority who have have experienced near polar opposite.
I could easily point out 100+ negative AND positive outcomes in terms of what lies ahead for us all in a world that will be ultimately ruled by AI.
I see both sides of the coin, the light and the darkness, but I tend to point out the negative stuff more though because if you can accept the bad stuff for what it is, seeing the light is easier. I also think a huge part of survival is to be aware of your surroundings much like any creature needs to stop and look around before grabbing a sip of water.
Overall I'd say those included as part of the "greater good" are those that will find a way to survive in a world that will not work out favorably for most... as a means to the end of what our species will evolve into over time.
Most of us have little to no chance at competing with AI in the long run; many have no chance in the short run. As to the length of time we have before we're essentially forced into transhumansm is anyone's guess. Is that a negative outlook? Again, I just see that as a fact of life in that any species faced with challenges needs to adapt ... or face the possibility of death.
What allowed the world's population to boom? Technological advances. What will afford us, as a species, to extend our time here on earth sustainably without the need to overconsume? Technology. What will allow us to reduce consumption, the need for human resources, the need to drive economic growth and prosperity without incentiving billions of people through means of consumption, many of whom take life for granted? AI.
I don't condone or advocate for genocide. People have more than proven they are their own worst enemy in many respects. Cheap money and food equates to debt and disease for the vast majority of us in developed countries.
Does technology automatically entitle us all to sit fat on the thrown to all live like kings and queens? I'd hope not, but I don't see that as a negative viewpoint either. Ideally we'll all be given a fighting chance to remain competitive if one is willing to put up a fight. I don't see struggle as a negative thing, but a necessity to life that makes us stronger much like a plant grows stronger standing up to wind or busting through the clay to see the light of day.
Survival of the fittest - always.
S7 to me is an adventure of chance and belief. If the stock goes to zero, it would be tough pill to swallow, but it's been a fun journey in riding this wave of HUGE possibilities.
I often think that IF this company takes flight...and I mean in a big way... we as diehards (7 years nearly for me) owe it to ourselves to meet up somewhere with an ocean view, some cold drinks and steak. How's that for a having a positive outlook?
May the force be with you.
