Shall I bore you with the old "We're a nation of immigrants" thing? We are, after all. Since the founding of the nation, immigrants have arrived in waves. All of them encountered some opposition from people who'd been here longer. And eventually, all of them became accepted. You don't see any "No dogs or Irish" signs these days."
We eventually realized--around 1900--that we couldn't allow everyone in, and created quotas. That had its ugly moments, too, as when we turned away many Jews fleeing the Holocaust in Germany.
Trump's chumps see immigrants as the Other, and believe they're bad. Said chumps are for the most part poorly educated, and believe immigrants might threaten their jobs. They also have other unrealistic worries that we won't get into. But we do need to reform our immigration policy. Now there's a bill both sides in the Senate agree on. But the House, led by Trump Chump Mike Johnson, may not pass it, though all it needs is for a few reasonable Republicans to join the Dems and vote for it. Still, it's in danger. Why? Because they're terrified of Trump.
And we do NEED immigrants. Some states are desperate for agricultural workers. You want to pay a fortune for your veggies? Other states are desperate for other kinds of workers. So don't leave the immigrants in the cities: give 'em visas and jobs, and send them to wherever they're needed.
