I am proud to finally announce the UK’s first official Hydrogen Fuel Cell application is now LIVE in Asda Skelmersdale CDC! The project has been 2 years in the making, with Skelmersdale CDC initially being a pilot site supported by Plug Power – this allowed us to trial the Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology, realise the benefits and make this incredible innovation a reality within our operation. I want to thank everyone who has helped this project come to life.

Asda to trial hydrogen fuel cell use at Skelmersdale distribution centre

Asda has announced it will become the first UK retailer to use hydrogen fuel cells to power its material handling equipment, in a move to slash its carbon footprint.
A six-month trial will take place at its Skelmersdale chilled distribution centre in Greater Manchester, and will be used in equipment such as forklift trucks and order pickers.
The fuel cells, which are produced by Plug Power, have twice the power of lead acid batteries and release zero emissions, with water the only byproduct.
