You're right. "One would think the jews would understand..." that subjecting a population to increasingly apartheid conditions for decades would inevitably invite retaliatory violence. Sadly, with Israeli governments increasingly moving to the right, one would expect in the short term at least, repression and conflict can only get worse. One positive light on the situation though is that while war has always brought Israelis together today war is also dividing them. On the other hand the idea Israel must in essence be a Jewish state is a huge impediment to it ever being a true democracy. Looking at the situation from any angle a two-state solution seems to be the only answer. Then again Israel insists on building more settlements in Palestinian territory so even today stealing even more land. It's an unjust, exploitive, unadulterated fuck-up.
