Funny, I believe the exact opposite. Percentage change is a relative measure, irrespective of what the points are. A 2% drop in a market index is easily understood and informative whether the index is 1,000 or 10,000. With points change I need to know what the baseline is and do the math in my head.

Can you add the points up or down for the indices (esp DOW) which is more important than percentage up/down, thanks...looks good, clear, informative...
