You can still read their posts even if you've blocked their PMs.
At the top of a board's main page there's a menu "More." It's on the right above the "Write a New Post" box. Click on it. The third option will say "Enable Filter" or "Disable Filter." Make sure the filter is disabled and you'll be able to read the posts of people you have on ignore.

It used to be easier to find the enable/disable feature. Now it's well-hidden.

And no, the "Use the block them supposed solution" thing does not work IMO. Blocking a poster then blocks everything they post...
