Really would appreciate some Admin feedback on this matter.
I have been going over, thinking about, and going over the drafts again for the new user and moderator guidelines. Trying to get a grip on what this entails in reality regarding what is an on topic and off topic post. For the last decade I've been moderating many boards and removing posts without bias towards the sentiment expressed, it has been relatively clear cut what is appropriate and what is not up until now.
So here is an example of what I am now totally unclear about. Today I removed an obviously off topic and/or attack as a response to a comment about the stock, and not company related at all, under the existing TOU policy.
I’m glad you have something to fill your empty existence.
Now this is clearly solely an opinion about the poster. Will this be acceptable moving forward? I originally thought the intent of the changes was not to render a poster the subject matter, am I correct in assuming this, or are posts solely about the user fair game now? It is real easy to envision where a stock board becomes twenty posts about the other users in less than five minutes.
This is from the draft of the new user guidelines:
Choose civility. People are here to learn and to share their own views. If you are here for the purpose of abusing and disrespecting other commentators, your participation is merely disruption and of no benefit.
Ok, so the post I removed is clearly not civil, rather abusive, and solely about the other Ihub member - not the company in any fashion, or addressing the post about the company at all.
Should the post be removed under the new guidelines? Would it be inappropriate for a moderator to remove these type posts moving forward? I am certain I am not the only person thinking on these things. We are going to need some serious guidance for this new and improved Ihub to even have a shot at being tenable.
I have read the Admin comments regarding flag and ask a lot more if you have a grey issue and let you decide. But quite frankly it is going to be overwhelming real quick, and if you continue to desire volunteer service from civil people who still understand and respect process and civility we are going to need a lot more clarification in the new guidelines before this goes into effect in two days.
