Norton's physique was an exception. Chiselled like Michaelangelo's sculpture, Norton possessed probably the best physique in boxing history.

George Foreman once said" I was in a theater once with a girlfriend seeing Mandingo, the first big movie Norton starred in, and when he came on screen, took off his shirt and looked into that camera, I thought, “I will not introduce him to her!” The mirror, mirror on the wall would have said, “Ken Norton, he’s the fairest of them all.”

Norton was never on any drugs or enhancements, he served in US Marines where he picked up boxing and was a natural athlete.

Norton as a high schooler participated in eight track events at Illinois State high school track competition and placed first in seven. As a result, the "Ken Norton Rule", which limits the participation of an athlete to a maximum of four track and field events, was instituted in Illinois high school sports.
