You're absolutely right. But there are other reasons why people use aliases. When I first began posting at SI in 1996, lots of posters used their real names. We were all new to the internet. Members were for the most part courteous and fun.

But within three years, much of that changed. Women were harassed, some people were doxxed, though we called it "stalking" then. Sad to say, the scum floats to the top.
