Just to use up my free posts for the day ... Illegal Brands IP does own the trademark for "ILLEGAL BRANDS" as a name-string, irrespective of font or appearance:
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=88600530&caseSearchType=US_APPLICATION&caseType=DEFAULT&searchType=statusSearch

They applied for it on Sep 12, 2019. It was published for opposition in the Trademark Gazette Aug 11, 2020, it was unopposed, and it was granted Oct 27, 2020.

This link for Illegal Brands IP LLC:

shows the trademarks Illegal Brands IP LLC owns (scroll down).

The current trademark that is under dispute -- a graphic logo using "Illegal Brands" -- was also applied for on Sep 11, 2019, and published in the Gazette on the same date as the other one, August 11, 2020.

Ilegal Mezcal began its opposition on Sep 9, 2020.

That it missed opposing the trademark of the raw text string "ILLEGAL BRANDS" was probably an oopsy that may be a reason the opposition has dragged out for so long.

We can only hope that Bacardi cares about it as much as Ilegal Mezcal does (or did), and that the settlement agreement reached with Ilegal Mezcal -- if it was signed by Nixon -- will still be binding under Bacardi's ownership.
