The Supreme court made a decision called Citizens United where money is speech and corporations have people. Hence unlimited amounts of money can be raised. Dems have never been able to get passed the Senate for any reforms although they have tried. To change in the future they need a majority in house and senate. In the Senate they need to change the filibuster rules (keep the filibuster but change it so that at least 4 members of the majority party must be part if it). If that happened you would see many changes moving forward to make us a better country.
