Avoided by Dems, how? Firstly the ACA covers it. That would be the ACA that the GOP unsuccessfully tried to get rid of, with no replacement even in the wind, under Trump. Secondly, speaking of mental health, it's not the Dems waiting for an imaginary embrace of sanity by the GOP as in passing red flag laws and removing assault rifles from the marketplace.

Lastly it's not the Dems who falsely claim mental health is a bigger issue than easy availability of guns to the mentally ill. The rest of the world has it's share of mentally ill; we have mentally ill AND mass killings mostly done with assault weapons.

Does the Affordable Care Act cover individuals with mental health problems?

Yes. The Affordable Care Act provides one of the largest expansions of mental health and substance use disorder coverage. The law requires that most individual and small employer health insurance plans, including all plans offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace cover mental health and substance use disorder services.

Also required are rehabilitative and habilitative services that can help support people with behavioral health challenges.
