You would think someone who is a P.I. would be smart enough to realize there is public info out there on all of us. She though I must have police connections.

Do you know anything about Asiavest? It's a PI agency that operates in L.A., Las Vegas, and Taiwan. It was founded by a former cop called Don Georgino. He seems to have some connection to Richard Secord and the sleazy company Secord was involved with.
