AUKUS. Good point of yours, hadn't occurred to me. Australia is doing the buying so guess it's fair from a cost point of view too. Though on that the US over history would have put much more moola in toto toward the maintenance of still a relatively decent 'rule of law' situation in the Pacific.

"I like the diplomacy of placing Australia first in the acronym AUKUS. The US UK 'special relationship' goes back many decades; no harm in communicating a special triad relationship.
Easy call. Near future Netflix drama has AUKUS sub in cat and mouse encounter with Chinese sub.
"

Heh, Go Netflix. Toss in a 'who's the boss' internal conflict between the Australian commander of the sub and an American military sub guy on board.

Tangentially, imagine China going on about Australia being involved in driving an arms race in the region. LOL China now has the largest navy in the world with i think about 13 nuclear powered subs. Some half i think are have nukes on board.

Obviously they have to say publicly what they are saying, both for foreign and domestic consumption. Still, it's hilariously hypocritical.

It was Plato who said, “He, O men, is the wisest, who like Socrates, knows that his wisdom is in truth worth nothing”
