The GOP was an anti-science, junk-science, conspiracy theory mongering bunch of know-nothings then as now.

A tradition going back at least as far as the Scopes Monkey Trial, 98 years ago. The Trumpanzees of those days denied the theory of evolution, did not want it taught in TN schools, and then they proved that the theory at least did not apply to them.
