I’m not sure why the stock recovered

My guess is that the stated reason - national security reasons - seemed such a far fetched BS reason to delay letting the deal go through that most thought it ultimately would be allowed. If this deal is blocked it is obviously purely political has nothing to do with competition, national security (are you kidding me), etc.
