Stuart Tomc: Was he pushed, or did he jump?
It is a critical question to help understand what might be happening behind the curtains.
If he was pushed, was it because:
A) CV Sciences are reducing staff prior to an imminent acquisition so the acquiring company doesn’t take on the layoff liability at what would probably be bad optics and a higher cost to them?
B) Revenues continue to decline, and CV Sciences no longer sees or can afford the cost/benefit of Stuart’s position?
If he jumped, was it because:
A) He is the ‘advance party’ into a Nordic Naturals acquisition. In my opinion that is most unlikely as it would be high risk for Stuart if the deal didn’t go through, especially as he probably left vesting of RSUs on the table. Also, would such an advance party raise the eyebrows of the SEC?
B) He no longer sees a soft landing for CV Sciences, be it through acquisition or improving revenues, and he exited while he could.
C) He fell out with JD on not getting a Golden Parachute and bloody-mindedly left.
Unfortunately, the fact he seems to have immediately walked into a job suggests this was planned on his part and he jumped. The good news here might be that he made the jump before the recent FDA announcement that they would soon provide guidance and he is now kicking himself.
