I've been reading Malcolm Nance's The Plot to Destroy Democracy.

I recommend it.

Didn't start with Putin, but he's a master of the game. Sweden, Germany, Hungary, USA, Italy... All have open societies with fascist movements supported by Putin.. all of them using the same methods that we see employed here.
