"In its weekly Natural Gas Storage Report for October 15-21, the EIA announced Thursday morning that inventories rose by +52 BCF. The injection was 4 BCF smaller than my +56 BCF projection and 14 BCF bullish versus the 5-year average. The build snapped a streak of 6 straight bearish injections and 5 straight triple digit injections. Five out of the six regions saw bullish injections (or, in the case of the Pacific’s -1 BCF, withdrawals), with only the Mountain’s +4 BCF topping its 5-year average (+2 BCF). The South Central led the way on the bullish side with a +17 BCF injection, 7 BCF less than its +24 BCF 5-year average. All five storage regions remain at deficits versus both their 5-year averages and last year, led in each case by the East Region at -68 BCF and -53 BCF, respectively. With much warmer temperatures expected for at least the next 3 storage reports, this situation is likely to change.
