"They see their America disappearing."

Their America has already disappeared, it's long gone. They are having hissy fits because the changes are not necessarily what they'd like to see. The absolutely weird thing is that, when asked, these same people cannot name an era in American history when things were provably better, overall, than they are now (putting climate change aside).

It's ironic that so many of them expect certain types to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" yet they, themselves, are unwilling to attempt to do so. Better to threaten violence and try to tear apart the republic.
