Trump will probably be the first American president who is just too scared to testify before congress. America likes strong politicians who come before the very people who elected them to testify. In my lifetime I watched Bill Clinton be humiliated before the entire Country and the World for having an affair in office. Republicans kept that investigation going for years on an original premise of a land deal that went bad. Instead, the investigation went all over the place, investigating the Clinton's for anything they could find.

All the Republicans could find was an extra marital sexual affair with one of his interns, and he lied about it. That was it, and the Republicans went forward with the vote of impeachment. Politics were so simple back them, lying about an affair.

Now we have Trump, who led an insurrection within the Capital building, that tried to delay and overturn the results of the 2020 election. These very same Republicans who are shown hiding in the basement of the Capital, seeking help to keep them all safe from trump supporters who are breaking windows and doors trying to get at them.

So many of these same Republicans just look the other way to hold trump responsible, now that is pure weakness by them.
