Well, the market this morning is awful. FedEx pulled the plug.
However, as poor as FedEx reported, I do not think it's quite as bad a reflection on the economy as seems. You see, FedEx sidesteps talking about the massive loss of business with Amazon it has experienced in recent times. While FedEx and UPS still transport a fair amount for Amazon, they have lost much more to Amazon's "last mile delivery" program.
Amazon is now fully pregnant into its own delivery. Just try to buy a cargo van today from any manufacturer. Forgettaboutit! List price plus a substantial premium. And months of waiting. Why? Because Amazon has sucked up every available cargo van in the country.
So there is more commerce going on than the FedEx report suggests. It is being handled by the 800 pound gorilla.
