I'm just speculating obviously. I suspect he's trying to save face by not saying it. His reputation is already quite poor, and I'm sure any potential company knows that just with a simple google search, which likely plays into lack of desire to associate. He's probably scrounging for another company. I wish someone a little more competent would buy the shell from him. Maybe send it back to Ben @ Synergy.
