You have to see them from the side to see the incredible perspective these people work with.

And on that note, probably for centuries artists have used trickery with perspectives that when you view a piece of art from an angle images appear. I don't have any link at the moment, but think of looking at a 8x10 paper with a tree drawn on it and holding the paper at mid point and tilting the paper away from you about 70-80% and the grain may spell words or images may pop out. I've done it back in school as a project.

It is also a possible urban legend that advertisers have used it in a sort of subliminal advertising gig. The mind can be fooled in so many ways.
