Go with a Golden Lab. When I was
a kid my cousins had a Lab named Sage. My aunt was a nurse and taught him how to rescue kids or adults. Back then we would spend Summers on the Cape where my Dad's 4 brothers also lived or had Summer cottages. All were on the water or had access. Our place was best for 3 to 10 year olds to swim. So with 15-20 kids all playing on the shore, marsh, or water my aunts had their hands full watching us all. Sage was the life guard. Our families had a rule that you couldn't go out in the boat without a life jacket unless you could swim. Our place was on what's called the river. About 70 yards wide at low tide. The test was the kids had to swim to the other side and back and we all wanted to try. Life jackets suck. Sage was always there. All you had to do was grab his tail and he'd pull you to shore if in trouble!

Labs are also good for finding tennis balls.
