Yes, I know about the so-called paid stock bashers, but I'm not that quick to dismiss them. That article you posted is from 2007, really before the advent of full-on social media. I'm guessing that there are all sorts of paid trolls these days, those who bash politicians as well as stocks. It's just another weapon in the arsenal.

In the investing world, you now also have these law firms chasing supposed company misdeeds, which is a form of bashing, as well. Also, Cramer, who I detest, I believe once delivered an admission about how he and his hedge fund buddies manipulate share prices.

He seems to acknowledge being a self-paid basher, but, again, it was years before the actual fun began.

I mean many stock shorters have always bashed the stocks they short, so giving some kid a few bucks to spread rumors about a company on social media is a logical next step. I"d be very surprised if that article is still accurate.
