the ban list progression went from admin to mods on this board because F6 didn't ban people personally, he had admin do it for him.
Oddly enough, the lawsuit against IHUB over copyright infringement was purely about content. No one was threatened or attacked.
I noticed you didn't mention misinformation. Normally, people post blather bullshit all day long, if you want blatant lies just visit a conservative board or read a troll here.
In the case of a pandemic, deceiving people so as to not follow life-saving actions could easily be construed as an attack on their safety and the public's safety.
I realize that junk science is a favorite for "owning the libs" but the partisan spin on medicine, left unchecked, can and has had real life consequences. We allow people to be stupid here, but the red line is allowing them to be dangerously stupid to others. IMHO
I know stockmule is trying to push over the line again, such that if we shut that crap down, we will get to hear even more bellowing about censorship; in this little corner of the world, we look out for each other, and someone telling people to avoid the best medical advice is not a thing that responsible people do.
Personally, I am sort of over covid, as my family is in a position where no one is going to get sick and die (vaxxed or post-infection, or both, a couple elderly relatives died before the vaccine was available), but that does not mean I don't care about others.
The blatant misinformation might not mean as much as it did when it was being used to dissuade vaccinations wholesale, as most people who are going to get vaccinated probably have, but telling people that they will die because they got vaccinated is a bridge too far.
So say what you will about facebook and twitter shutting down covid misinformation, I believe it was in the best interests of public health, not executed perfectly, but we can only effect that end on IHUB through board management.
Thanks for explaining that IHUB is silent and that board moderators are mostly left to do as they see fit. Fuagf and I discuss this stuff more than you probably realize, and you probably noticed I am more of a hardliner on the topic, but it would take more than a vaccine to wedge us...
He is a science person, too, so we are usually in agreement on such matters, but the social aspect of dealing with science deniers (probably more aptly called anti science liars here) is not a simple one.
