Your a fool to think that Putin and his generals don't have a 'big board' that tracks our state of readiness. There remains no chance that either country can survive the retaliation from a first nuke strike by either on the other.

Nor is there much possibility that the Russians haven't gamed out a number of 'if we do this, they do.....' that don't end with 'what would we do if our territory were attacked?' 'Right, and can we expect the U.S. and NATO to respond differently?'

The Russian generals now certainly know that the West would make mincemeat of any attempted ground attack on NATO as NATO would own the airspace and there would be no chance for long columns of Russian armor and troops to survive NATO air superiority.
