I have no problem with outlet malls. They are the perfect context for the triumph of style over substance because they are the places where style equals substance. Works for me, seems like relatively harmless fun (not getting into the Chinese slave labor or wealth inequality arguments).
The problem is when people get elected to high office because people confuse them with the roles they play on tv, for example. Reagan and Trump are two outstanding examples of charismatic actors with nothing between their ears who overcame lowly IQs to rule this country in inexplicable fashion. (Fred Thompson, anyone?)
Of course, lower down the food chain you see these ridiculous candidates posing with automatic rifles, and such, to show how tough they supposedly are. And wrapping themselves in flags to stake out their territories, knowledge and experience be damned.
