Yes. Let's start at the beginning. The Republicans, originally through the machinations of the Tea Party and Gingrich, have rendered the legislative branch of the government almost useless. These conservatives are, basically, against a functioning centralized federal government, as we're seeing, things just don't get done.

So that has two effects, neither unintended. The first is to place the processes that are generally the responsibility of Congress into the hands of unelected officials, like courts, the military, and the Federal Reserve. And to, then, influence the selection of like minded functionaries for leadership roles and make end runs around the Legislative Branch.

Second, is the decades long push by conservatives to privatize services that have been traditionally performed by government. This is the ultra conservatives' wet dream - if we make it impossible to govern, to raise the debt ceiling, to collect sufficient taxes, then these responsibilities will have to, by necessity, be turned over to private interests. And finally we will get to overturn the governing mentality that the bastard FDR initiated.
