First we (the cia) over throw Iran's leader so the UK won't have its oil fields there nationalized in 1953

We impose the Shaw of Iran on them who is a vicious dictator

The Iran revolution deposed the Shaw and when we took him in, that pissed Iranian Students off and they over ran the US embassy creating The Iran Hostage Crisis

We back Saddam Hussain in Fighting a war with Iraq and then Iran Contra sells arms to Iran...

Just so happens we end up killing Saddam after two wars and Bush pardoning the Iran Contra culprits...
