Well, considering the Christian mythology was created by the Flavian emperors in Rome to try to control the messianic Jewish revolts in the two Jewish Wars, it was quite simple to apply observed solar and lunar occurrences to their mythos.

I'll not worry about "judgement" or Armageddon, thank you very much.
