I say that they coexist in far more people than you care to acknowledge.

I may not say 'far more but do have to admit that's part of it...I tend to defend a little too much when in fact blue collar folk are not just a group of saints and angels...

I will however guard against blanket statements... The dems did change their focus to civil rights and urban voters, that's all good, in the process they lost focus on the blue collar, the rural communities and standing up to big business....

I think you will see a little of Bothsidisms in that and this next one too...I will only cherry pick one excerpt that points to the Trump era...

https://www.voterstudygroup.org/publication/party-hoppers

The group to undergo the largest shift, however, has been the much discussed Obama to Trump voter. Within the last five years, they have shifted 28 points away from the Democratic Party and 43 points toward the Republican Party. To put this in context, while about 50 percent of these voters identified as Democrats or Democratic-leaners in 2011, only 22 percent do so today. Republican or Republican-leaners once constituted a small portion of this group (16 percent), but make up a majority now (59 percent).

Making it about race only is disingenuous, dems will have to wait for a lot of people to die off who lived through those times if that narrative is to widely accepted,,,Historians and political scientists will disagree...
