November 30, 2021 - Paul Muolo & Monica Hogan
A recent GSE-related letter to Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, from former President Donald Trump
was making the rounds in Washington, DC, this week.
Dated Nov. 11, the correspondence leads off with this paragraph:
“Thank you for talking to me about the need to
privatize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two great
American companies…”
Trump then makes some disparaging comments about former
GSE regulator Mel Watt and then argues his administration
was denied the right to recap and release Fannie and Freddie…
Sen. Paul, by the way, is not a member of the Senate Banking
Committee. The letter reads like it was possibly written by
a hedge fund that owns the common and/or preferred shares
of Fannie and Freddie. Of course,
Trump’s iconic “mountain range” signature is on the bottom.
