I just today started a book on the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma and how OxyContin / opioids have been responsible for about 400K deaths in this country.
Like the Koch Brother(s), they are world class philanthropists, which, I guess, is balm for their consciences.
You are correct that unions were taken over by mobsters but they also provided a path for millions of Americans into the middle class. I'd prefer cleaning up union management, which I think largely has been done, to getting rid of them to get rid of the criminal element. My great uncle and a partner started the restaurant workers union.
I suppose wherever there's a lot of money, there's crime of some sort. The 3 original tech 1%-ers, Gates, Zuckerberg, & Jobs all stole the ideas that propelled their companies to superstardom.
