I believe that actually, no product is produced in America utilizing what would have been the US extension of the keystone. Product from Canada was supposed to be the only oil passing through to texas only to be off loaded to foreign countries with very little handling by the US oil companies.
Basically just a few control points along the way with little to no regular employees.
Basically some of the reasons put out there is the canadian oil company didn't want to spend the money, or deal with their own treaties or spoil their own lands to add more pipe to their west coast. They already have plenty, but wanted to increase their profits by expanding. NONE of their oil would have been sold to US in any measurable amounts as claimed by numerous environmental groups and studies.
It's all about the money and quick turn around for profits. I love Canada, always have, but that oil group isn't totally Canadian either that I read somewhere.
