It's sad when the word freedom is so downgraded to be used as a political tool to excuse selfishness .....

It's sad when the word "selfishness", a virtuous trait, is bastardized to mean the opposite.

Selfishness is serious, rational, principled concern with one's own well-being. This does not disregard the well-being of others. In fact it demands respect of the rights of others as all men have the right to pursue their own well-being.
