In the PR's title is the "hook." Yep, every article/communication really should have one. The "hook" in this regard is "ADDS EUROPEAN UNION TO EVER-GROWING PORTFOLIO OF SPIDER SILK PATENTS."

So every PR should begin with a misleading statement? KBLB has no patents. Not a single one. Zilch. They added no patents to a portfolio of no patents and the result is an 'ever growing portfolio' of no patents.

announces today that it has been granted patent protection for its recombinant spider silk technologies in the European Union.

Doesn't that seem like the EU granted patent protection to KBLB? That's the way I read the sentence. But that isn't true. The EU granted patent protection to Notre Dame. For the moment, KBLB has an exclusive license to use the patent. But Notre Dame can likely take that away if, for example, KBLB is in arrears on their payments to Notre Dame.

Is KBLB still in arrears on their payments to Notre Dame? Last time I checked, they were.

I also assumed they had just been granted patent protection in the EU. But that isn't true either. The patent had been granted April 30. Just took KBLB a while to get around to announcing this fact.

All of this is unnecessarily deceptive to me.
