Sickzone, you have provided an important clue.

When I read today's PR, I thought that Thompson was claiming a patent had been awarded to Kraig Biocraft. Evidently almost everyone else thought the same thing.

Searching the EU patent database, one can find this entry. (I suspect this is the patent you found.) This patent indeed has been awarded. But not to KBLB.

The patent was granted to Notre Dame. Thompson is one of the authors on the patent. KBLB has the exclusive right to use the intellectual property identified in this patent.

Canada, Vietnam, and a few other countries have already awarded patents for this intellectual property. At the time, I made a point that these did not cover much of the important economies. But now the European Union has granted a patent and that is a big deal. The EU has a significant total economy, even absent the UK.

The interesting question now is: what intellectual property is covered by this patent? When I looked it over a while back, it mentioned the silkworm explicitly. That might seem to exclude goo-based alternatives because the producing organism isn't a silkworm. But there are other specific claims as well. Time for a closer look.

The news today is quite different from what it appeared to be. Thompson implied KBLB had received a patent. Not true. But KBLB did acquire some derived protection through Notre Dame.

Note the date this patent was awarded: April 30, 2021. Thompson has been sitting on this news until he felt a need to boost the share price.

What a company!
