88 Energy Ltd (AIM:88E, ASX:88E) has hired Philip Byrne as the company’s new non-executive chairman, succeeding Michael Evans, who retires from the position after seven years.

The company announced two further appointments designed to strengthen the management team. Robert Benkovic has been installed as the company’s new chief operating officer and Joanne Kendrick is a new non-executive director.

"I am delighted to be joining the 88 Energy team at this exciting time,” Byrne said.

“The company's suite of world-class acreage on the North Slope of Alaska offers huge potential for shareholder value in my eyes. I look forward to assisting the management team in the drive to unlock this value through our appraisal and exploration activities over coming seasons.”

Evans, meanwhile, added: “Today 88E is one of the most accomplished operators in Alaska and on the cusp of significant success.

“I welcome both Phil and Joanne to the board and believe their credentials and experience will be invaluable in taking 88E to the next level. I have enjoyed my time at 88E and wish the entire team the success they deserve."

Byrne is a petroleum geologist by training with extensive industry experience, including management positions at Santos Energy, Nido Petroleum (ASX:NDO), North-West Shelf Australia LNG and BHP Petroleum.
